As water drips through copper<br \/>\nrings, metal canisters become polarized (to see why, check out this link:<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/amasci.com\/emotor\/kelvin.html\">Kelvin&#8217;s Thunderstorm<\/a>).<br \/>\nBend copper arms so that the thin conducting wires (attached to each arm)<br \/>\nare close together but not touching. After 10 or 20 seconds of drip time touch<br \/>\nthe two conducting wires together using a non-conducting rod (pencil), little<br \/>\nlight bulb should blink at the moment of contact. <\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: large;\">Tricks to making it work: Make sure base is dry (to keep<br \/>\ncanisters electrically isolated); position copper rings at a location that<br \/>\nis just below where the water stream breaks apart into droplets; hold a charged\u00a0object (i.e. charged nylon rod) close to one of the copper rings as the water\u00a0is dripping to get the charge separtation process started.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: large;\">Located in L01; section A2; covered in plastic bag.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp; Principle: Charge separation by induction.
